Chapel, Frescoes - St.Aloysius Gonzaga


A number of paintings in the St. Aloysius College Chapel are based on the life of St. Aloysius Gonzaga, the patron saint of the Institution. A few of them are shown below:

Did you know? Aloysius was born in a wealthy family with power and influence. But he renounced all this just to serve God and mankind.

This painting shows St. Aloysius serving plague stricken people in Rome during his rather short lifetime.It is this service of his to the needy which continues to inspire people the world over, even today.

Did you know? The young Aloysius spent most of his time serving plague-stricken people in Rome. Sadly he contracted the disease himself and died a martyr at an early age of 23.

aloy-deathThis painting pictures the death of St.Aloysius. The painting is situated right next to the altar and is very prominent. The artist has very precisely conveyed to the viewer the sadness, enveloping everyone around the young Aloysius who is on his deathbed.

St Ignatius of Loyola, the Founder of Jesuit Order. St. Francis Xavier. One of the first companions of St. Ignatius. His mortal remains are kept in Bom Jesu, the Jesuit church in Old Goa.
