From
the year 1880 to 1886, the library was situated in a hall on the
ground floor of Bishop’s residence. The main building of the
College was commissioned for use in 1885. The library was shifted
to one of the halls of this building in 1886. Later a small building
was constructed and the library was moved to this building at the
beginning of the year 1900. This building came to be known as Red
Building.
However, this building was also insufficient and another new building
was constructed and was occupied in 1910. This new building was
meant to house all the College classes, an examination hall, the
College library and the physics and chemistry laboratories. An electricity
generator was installed in the College in the year 1911 and lights
and fans were provided in the College library in the year 1913.
At the end of the year 1940 the total collection of the library
was 8564 books. The College had in its rolls 600 students in the
year 1943. Changes took place in 1943-44 when B.Sc. and B.Com. degree
courses were introduced in the College. With these changes the student
strength had steadily increased and again a new massive 3 storied
building was planned. It was half-complete when it was commissioned
for use in 1948-49. By now the students strength of the College
had reached the 1000 mark. And at the end of the year 1950, the
library had in its stock a total collection of 14,469 books.
As the College was growing and hence the library, it was felt that
the space was insufficient for the library in the old Science block
building. The library was again shifted to the new college extension
building, which was called arts block, in the year 1961. At this
time the library had 20,904 books in its collection.
The centenary of the College was celebrated in the year 1980. To
mark this occasion, a centenary memorial extension building was
planned. The half completed college main building was further extended.
An excellent 3 storyed extension building was constructed and opened
in the year 1980. The library was shifted to this new building.
The upper two floors of the building were meant for the library.
At this time the collection of the library was 40453 books.
THE PRESENT
The post-centenary era starting from 1980 saw a number of changes
and a steady all round growth of the College library. To keep pace
with the changing environment in all fields a number of new subjects
and altogether new courses of study were introduced in the College.
Student’s strength of the College was increased and the College
became co-educational in 1985, after being Men’s College for
105 years.
The new subjects like Computer Science, Electronics, Microbiology,
Statistics, Physical Education, Psychology, Journalism, Communicative
English, Optional English, Optional Kannada, Biochemistry, Bio-technology
were introduced. New courses like B.B.M., B.C.A., B.S.W., and P.G.
courses like P.G.D.B.M., P.G.D.C.A., M.C.A., M.S.W., M.Sc. have
also been started. The College library had to respond accordingly
to all these changes.

4 categories: Subject, Author, Title and Keywords. Sometimes the
