ORIGIN and DEVELOPMENT

1912: Fr. Chiappi brought the Minerals from Italy, the Herbarium, the Collection of Roman coins, the collection of commemorative medals and a part of the coins. All these were gift from the Collegio Vieta, Italy. All these were put in show cases and placed on the verandah of the Physics Lab., and a small part of it was kept in Chemistry lab.

The fossils1912: Fr. Proserpio, the Rector, extended the College Dept. and provided a hall for the Museum.

Fr. F. Airoldi, the minister of the House, for want of space in the new museum, reduced five show cases into 10 wall almirhas and placed the minerals and rocks. The fossils remained in the old show case.

Fr. Rondano continued his work and placed the old Roman coins and commemorative medals in the big almirhas; carefully and most patiently classified many of the old coins and even improved the museum by adding many specimens, different kinds of skeletons of animals, a great variety of sea shells, and many natural science specimens. This he did till he left the college

1944: Fr. Joseph Coelho, Rector, to enlarge the Students' Library , shifted the Museum to the Chettur's bungalow in the newly acquired property. The Museum was carefully shifted and well arranged there till 1949. In 1949 it was shifted to the spacious former English Hall and here too the museum was good.

1950: Fr. Jacques, for want of class rooms, scattered the Museum for the first time. Many specimens were lost due to haste.

De Dion car1955: In May 1955, Fr. A. Saldanha, Rector got the museum rearranged in the New Extension and immediately added to it the 2 beautiful life size statues of Ghandiji and Nehru- workmanship of Messers Simon & Co., Mangalore. The Museum was reopened to the Public on 27 Dec. 1955.

1956: De Dion car was presented by P. F. X. Saldanha

1995: In Nov. 1995 The Museum was once The Inauguration of the Museum in 1995again opened to the public. The renovation work was done by Prof. Gilbert Sequeira, HOD of the History Dept. He slogged for more than 2 months to put order to the Museum. The renovation of the Museum was initiated by Fr. Prashanth Madtha, the Principal of the College.

The Inauguration of the Museum in feb 20002000: The Museum has been shifted to the Red Building of the High School. The new location was blessed by Fr. Ralph da Costa, s.j., the Rector of the college, and was inaugurated by Prof. Gilbert Sequeira, the HOD of History Dept. on 24th Feb. 2000. He himself was responsible in arranging the museum at the new location.
