| PRE
UNIQUE 2003 |
“Every
responsibility is an opportunity to learn new things and to grow
to newer heights.”
Pre Unique, true to its name, has emerged a trendsetter for all
inter PUC activities. Started in 2000 on a modest basis, this cultural
and intellectual fest has gained popularity all over the state with
new and more colleges participating in it with every successive
year.
The planning and organization of this mega event began in the first
week of October. Mrs. Vijitha Shenoy was appointed as the Asst.
Convener and Mr. Manoj Lewis was requested to coordinate the finance
committee. Brain storming sessions were held with student council
members and staff members separately. Their ideas and suggestions
were put together and deliberated on at length. Finally, the planning
committee set down 28 competitions in 17 events. In addition, there
was one competition exclusively for our own students on an inter
- class basis. Two new events - Chef Connoisseur and Dissemination
were added for the first time. The other events were Scientia, Aesthetics,
Musings, Elicit, Sur Sangam, Minerva, De’battre, Veni Vedi
Vici, Graffito, Noopur, Quick Silver, Ballyhoo, De-Sign, Loquacious,
Melting Pot.
An attractive brochure listing the aims, all the events and rules
along with a poster were prepared.
The
thrust this year was to standardize the logo and theme. The theme
of Pre Unique 2003 was Beyond the frontiers…. towards excellence.
Colleges which had taken part in Pre Unique in the previous years
and a few other colleges from all over the state, were invited to
take part in this mega event. This was followed by the constitution
of 30 various committees- 18 committees to conduct various events
and the rest for the overall organization of the event. Each committee
was headed by a staff member and was assisted by at least one other
staff member. Student Council members were given responsibilities
as student organizers and they worked along with the staff members
in various committees. A total of 180 student volunteers and all
non-teaching staff have worked tirelessly with the event organizers
in making this event a memorable one.
Pre Unique 2003 which was held on November 28th and 29th witnessed
the participation of 975 students from 45 colleges along with their
staff in-charge coming from different parts of the state. Out of
these, 9 colleges which had participated in the previous years expressed
their inability to do so because of programmes in their respective
colleges. In the Banner competition exclusively meant for our own
students, all the 23 classes took part. 76 distinguished persons
form D.K. and Udupi districts cooperated with us by spending time
and energy to judge the various competitions.
Mr. M. Veerappa
Moily, Chairman, Revenue Reforms Committee and former Chief Minister,
Government of Karnataka, inaugurated the fest. He called upon students
to adopt time management in their day to day activities and said,
only those who believed in their strength could come up in their
life. Mr. Aravind Srivastava, I.A.S., District Collector of Dakshina
Kannada district gave away the prizes at the valedictory function.
He lauded competitions of this kind and expressed the hope that
the participants would certainly be richer in experience for taking
part in the well-organised Pre Unique. Rev. Fr. Dr. Vijay Kumar
Prabhu S.J., Rector, St. Aloysius Institutions presided over both
the formal functions, complemented the organizers on the excellent
time management. Rev. Fr. Dr. Eugene Lobo S.J., Principal, St. Aloysius
College, was the Guest of Honour at the inaugural function. The
overall winners of Pre Unique 2003 were Canara PU College, Mangalore
and the runners-up were St. Philomena PU College, Puttur. In all,
students from 22 different colleges secured prizes in various competitions.
The most wonderful
part of the Pre Unique 2003 was the manner in which all the staff
members, student council members and volunteers worked together
as one well-knit team. Those two days were about seeing our months
of hard work, countless sleepless nights, hopes and goals materialize
into two days of perfectly organised programme. Everyone who either
participated or watched the programme had nothing but praise and
appreciation for the arrangements made. I am grateful to the Principal
for the opportunity provided to me; my colleagues for their goodwill,
total commitment and good humour; students for all their ever enthusiastic
cooperation and selfless toil and the donors, for their generous
contributions in organizing Pre Unique 2003. At the end of the day,
I earnestly feel that Pre Unique 2003 has moved beyond the frontiers
and has set new trends in its quest for excellence.
At this year’s
inter-collegiate cultural fest our college team put up a good performance
bagging four prizes they are,
Debate Competition : Supreetha II PUC VIII Batch (I place)
JAM Competition : Shruthi Suresh II PUC Ist Batch (III Place)
