Release of the POSTAL STAMP on the Chapel Paintings


St Aloysius College in commemoration of Centenary of Paintings by

Antonio Moscheni s.j.


On Friday, 12 Jan 2001, the Postal Department of Government of India released a postal stamp on the chapel paintings by Rev. Antonio Moscheni s.j. in the world renowned chapel of St Aloysius College, Mangalore.

Shri George Fernandes, the Defence Minister of India, also an alumnus of St Aloysius College, was the Chief Guest. Shri Ram Vilas Paswan, the Minister for Post and Communication was also present on the occasion.

Shri. George Fernandes spoke on the occasion. He was very emotional and nostalgic. He spoke of his days in the High School. Made a special reference to the Jesuit Fathers who were his mentors. He said that what he is today is because of the education he received at St Aloysius College. He talked about a lot of memories associated with many locations on the campus. He specially mentioned an incident which occurred on 10 August, 1942, when Police entered the campus..and there was disturbance in town. He narrated how students were beaten up by the police..and he, as a middle school student..went up the red building steps...with a few stones in his hands..ready to throw stones at the police.. He also made a special mention of the college chapel where he was very much inspired and spent quite a lot of time in recollection and prayer.
