St Aloysius Industrial Training Centre

The St Aloysius Technical Training Institute was started in 1980 to train school drop outs in a trade to help them earn a living. Most of these are from the economically backward section of society. ATTI is now known as the St aloysius Industrial Training Centre as per the norms of the Government of Karnataka. It is now housed in a new building with proper facilities for workshops and class rooms.

To start with there were only four courses: tailoring, plumbing, welding and carpentry. The course in carpentry was dropped as there were no candidates. Two more courses were started in 1994. They are electritian and elctronics . The course in Refrigeration was introduced in 1997. For several years we had taken only boys, as the trades offered were not suitable for girls. Besides there weren't proper facilities for girls. Since 1997 we have started admitting girls. A new course in computers has been started from 1998.

As the courses are meant for the economically backward, the fees are kept low. Concessions and scholarships are offered to students who are unable to pay the fees. A subsidized mid-day meal is offered to poor students coming from far away places. A hostel is available for a few students. No rent is charged. Students do their own cooking.

The Old Students' Association was started in 1992. The Old students meet each year on 1st of feb. and have a sports day on 1st March. Special courses are organized for the Old students.
